Robert Jones
Robert was born in Newquay, Cornwall, where the beaches and cliffs were his childhood playground.
He studied at Falmouth College of Art and was fortunate to be tutored by both Robert Organ and Francis Hewlett. He then taught for several years at A S Neill’s Summerhill School and also spent seven years fishing around the coasts of Cornwall, but continued to develop his painting throughout.
A period tutoring at both Newlyn and Penzance colleges of art and a successful exhibition at Newlyn’s Orion Art Gallery inspired Robert to focus full time on his career as an artist, which has seen him exhibit widely and successfully.
Robert is also a highly respected author. In 2000, after years of meticulous research, he published ‘Alfred Wallis Artist and Mariner’ to critical acclaim and pursued his fascination for maritime subjects further, with ‘Reuben Chappell Pierhead Painter’ in 2006. A life spent fishing, teaching, painting and writing surrounded by the elements, landscapes and people of Cornwall gives his work an effortless authenticity and resonance.
