Lynne Cartlidge
“My work is fundamentally about light, space and colour”
Lynne’s gently luminous still life paintings are not simply static compositions. There is, as she says, ‘movement in the stillness’. From moment to moment the natural light that she always uses will change, and the shapes, colours and interrelationships within each image change accordingly. This sense of relativity gives each of Lynne’s paintings its own life and a subtle magnetism that draws the viewer inward. There is no hierarchy regarding content. These are ‘inner spaces’ defined by an intriguing visual language.
Lynne was born in New Zealand and grew up in Cornwall when her family returned to the UK. She studied at Falmouth Art School, has a Degree in Fine Art from Cardiff College of Art and is now settled in Wales.
Lynne was elected a member of the Royal Cambrian Academy for the Arts in 2017.
