Julian Cox artist and sculptor in his studio with his carved sculptures ready to be cast into bronze

Julian Cox

“I am intrigued and amazed by the beauty and mystery of ancient hand-crafted art objects; especially where the meaning or purpose is not fully understood.”

Following numerous sketches and profile drawings, Julian carves a wooden original or ‘pattern’ from which his limited edition bronzes are cast. The sculptures are then polished or patinated, before being mounted on hardwood bases. His work is inspired by functional objects, where the precision of form is defined by purpose, alongside elements of the female form.

After training at the City & Guilds of London Art School, Julian worked in the sculpture department for the international fine art restorers Plowden & Smith Ltd, where clients included The British Museum, the V&A, Sotheby’s and Christies.

Julian has a studio in Bristol and alongside his bronzes creates carved wood sculptures and Indian ink drawings. He is an elected member of the Royal British Society of Sculptors.
