Elaine Jones

“My paintings evolve a bit like nature itself. Structures are formed and repeatedly broken down. The work develops and transforms until it meets a balance between stillness and movement, space and colour.”

Inspired by the natural forces encountered through her extensive travels, Elaine’s potent, atmospheric works often take the viewer to extreme and uninhabited places, from arctic glaciers to the cloud forests of Costa Rica. There is restless equilibrium in her paintings, poised between the innate power of the wilderness and its ambient tranquillity. This protean sense of nature is all pervading, even when she is exploring environments nearer to home, in the English West Country.

Elaine studied art and design at Newcastle Under Lyme from 1994 – 95, where she was awarded the Fine Art Prize for painting. She also attended Loughborough University and Granada University in Spain between 1995 – 98.
